Delhi MCD ByPolls Results 2017 LIVE - Elections Results Votes Counting

Counting of votes is underway in the 13 wards of Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to which byelections were held. The results of the elections are likely to have a bearing on the 2017 municipal elections. Over six lakh electorate are eligible to decide the fate of 95 candidates. Both Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress have exuded confidence of winning the electoral battle while the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is seeking to replicate its assembly elections performance in its maiden outing at the civic hustings.


Polling began at 8 am amid ample security arrangement especially in north Delhi areas where the Delhi State Election Commission has identified polling stations as more sensitive than in other wards.
The 13 wards which went to the bypolls are Quamruddin Nagar, Shalimar Bagh (North), Ballimaran, Nawada, Vikas Nagar, Matiala, Nanakpura, Munirka, Bhati, Tehkhand, Khichripur, Jhilmil and Wazirpur.

The Delhi State Election Commission has deployed about 2,500 staff to man its polling stations, some of which fall in outer Delhi areas. Contesting in 13 wards will be AAP's maiden outing in the municipal corporation polls after the party's stupendous feat in the Assembly election last year when it won 67 out of 70 seats. The civic bodies are currently controlled by BJP. Fresh full-fledged polls to MCD are expected to take place next year. Recently in 2012 MCD Elections BJP managed to win the maximum seats in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi elections but now there is another party giving toughest competition to BJP that is Aam Aadmi Party which recently managed to win 67 seats out of 70 seats in Delhi Vidhan Sabha Elections 2015, AAP has fielded Sunita Tokas from Ward 166 (Munirka), Anvika Mittal from Ward 55 (Shalimar Bagh North), Mohammad Sadiq from Ward 86 (Ballimaran), Ajay Kumar from Ward 126 (Nawada), Abhishek Bidhuri from Ward 199 (Tekhand), among other places, The MCD bypolls are being seen as a litmus test for all three parties as its outcomes is likely to have a bearing on the municipal polls due in 2017.
